Golden Age – Cassette Culture

Cassette Culture (a mixtape) Cover Art

My good friend and co-owner of Namu, Malicious Lee, along with Do-Dat make up Golden Age. In keeping with the spirit of their group’s name, the duo recreate the nostalgia of the 90s hip-hop or as they call it “Cassette Culture”.  Do Dat spits over great beats in the mixtape, some very familair to the ears of true hip-hop heads.

Download: Golden Age – Cassette Culture

We’ll be celebrating the release of the mixtape on Sept. 3oth at Namu with a performance by Golden Age and special appearance of yours truly.

RZA speaks on Wu Dictatorship ’92-’97

At an interview at with the Splash Festival and Red Bull Academy, RZA explains his “dictatorship” over the Wu and why the Wu was more impacting then. His example of Method Man was a poignant one. In some other clips, he talks about working with Nas, Kanye, Quetin Tarantino, and Raekown.

Only Built for Cuban Linx 2 – Tracklisting

According to Eskay and fam, the tracklisting for OB4CL2 came out.  However, its what is possibly going to be on the record.  The order and final cut is still left in the air but this is the list of songs that we can predict it will be chosen from.  I think when you see the guest spots and producers, you will feel a little more secure on the quality of this album.  Also, the first review of the album is here.  All info and my heartfelt observation after the jump.

Raekwon – New Wu (feat Ghostface & Method Man) (video)

That ish right here… I’m feeling like its 1996 all over again. I meant to post this yesterday but was too busty replaying it all day. Mr. King of The Hip-Hop chorus, Mef, kills his appearance and its mad cool to see the Wu-Gambinos back. If this video doesn’t get you hype, go back to your Jonas Brothers downloads and merc yourself. Fellow DJs, I ask you join me and put this in your sets this weekend.  And yes, I think this is the third title I’ve heard about this song but I think “New Wu” is the official one now.

RZA Beat Drop

I was lame and didn’t contribute to Metal Lungie’s Beat Drop this month.  Damn baby mama drama kept me distracted (just kidding, Lena) but I’ll be on the next one, I promise Buhizzle.  Got some dope RZA selections and celebrity guest writers: Statik Selektah, Marco Polo, and 88 Keys.  Stop by the Metal Lungies and leave your opinion.

Wu-Tang is dead?

So… RZA is saying that he is unsure that they will ever make an album together again. He says Wu-Tang is forever but business with his clanmates is done. So, much like G at Grandgood, I ask “if they never record again, are they still a group?” Are there other groups that never make a record again but still a group? Fugees? Gangstarr? I don’t know…. Swiped from GG via ProHH. Full interview after the jump…

**UPDATE: Metal Lungies surprised me with a dope interview with Meth (lucky bastards).  Meth claims “Wu is still tight” but didn’t even know that RZA dropped a new album.  Go there for the interview.
