GQ Interviews Jay-Z & Raekwon

I just had to post that gangsta pic of Raekwon. GQ broke some dope ground recently with making Jay-Z one of their Men of the Year and including Raekwon on their Survivor list along with Eminem and Keith Richards. I think its not only socially notable but just great content to read. I’ve included both links for you to enjoy!

Raekwon talks about Nas on Cuban Linx

Although I almost didn’t post this because of the Reebok sponsorship, I did feel it was important enough for all 20 of your KTL readers to hear Rae speak on how Nas came apart of the Verbal Intercourse record. Rae speaks in only the way he knows how to, expect some nonsensical slang and “booms” to be said.

Raekwon & Nas ‘ “Rich & Black”

This one is for JGILLA. If he and I made a video (pause), this is what it would look like. You don’t know about this song? google my friend. Via TSS.

Hennessy – The Art of Blending

Hennessy (or Hen Rock as Prodigy calls it) has sponsored a few hip-hop tours the last few years.  Most notably one with the Roots, Q-Tip & Common.  Some have argued that having an alcohol sponsored hip-hip tour is detrimental to the urban communities they soliciting to and the above artists have caught some flack for it.  I am on the fence but will hold off opinion for another post.  Anyways, there is a 30 min documentary about the artists and tour that you can find on the  Hennessy’s Facebook , starting Thursday, June 30th from 5pm EST. Raekwon – RESPECT Interview

http://rapradar.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/picture-45.png

Elliot Wilson got a chance to speak to the Chef about his growing up “Wu” and the work behind his latest project, Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang.  This is an excerpt from the RESPECT magazine interview.  Which is one the few print mags I still effs with. Props to RR for the link.  If you want another dope interview w/ Rae, check out The Rap-Up’s one-on-one.

Raekwon explain “Shaolin vs Wu-Tang”

The Chef is really trying to the Ghostface claim to be the most consistent and acclaimed Wu Member (which was previously held by Method Man). I think he gives great insight to the new album and what he’s trying to achieve. I was going to try to write this in some rae/ghost jargon but the Big Ghost Chronicles does it way better than I do.

Raekwon – Molasses

Raekwon dropped a gem of a track with this one.  At first,  I was weary that Rick Ross but unlike Lupe Fiasco, Ross seems to be getting better with each album. The new Raekwon album has a new Nas/Raekwon collabo which I will let you get the album to hear.  (source)  Sorry for the slow posting.  Dealing with some personal stuff, tons of work, and recently had to replace my wallet/phone.  Thanks for the support.

The ReIntro Part 2 – DJ Franchise

The ReIntro Part 2 ends my two-part mix for my fellow lovers of hip-hop who are hesitant to give the new generation of MCs, DJs, and producers an open ear (much less heart).  Like many of us who grew up on this culture, we’ve been scorned. We see the art being substituted for commerce. Our exclusive “club” of friends and associates who you recognized loved hip-hop because of the way they nodded their head is now accessible to your grandparents and other unrecognizables. My effort here is to let my circle of influencers, my 5%ers, know that the music we love is well and strong. The quality is now in the minority but the impact is no less effective.  While Part 1 focused on earning your respect and was a subtle, approachable blend; Part 2 pushes the listener to engage in the lyrics and beats like we did when we walked the streets with headphones or in our rooms with speakers on blast.  Partake!  Tracklisting after the jump.

DJ Franchise – The ReIntro (Part 1)

Growing up in the Golden Era of Hip-Hop, I was privy (some say luckily spoiled) to some of the most consistent output of great music of our culture.  This experience has led myself and others in my age range to look down on the music produced by current hip-hop artists. Its easy to hate when you hear the radio, watch MTV, and the level of mediocre songs constantly blogged about on the internets.  But, those that do their proper e-digging and visit to indie concerts, know that hip-hop is prospering.  So, I give to you, my fellow hip-hop heads, The ReIntro – a sample platter of some of my most recent likings of established artists, burgeoning mcs, and underground producers.  This is ReIntroduction to hip-hop, who we once loved, broke up with, grew to appreciate, and now back to date but not ready to marry (word to Sake1).  Part 2 will be released on 12/10/10. Tracklisting after the jump.

Ghostface gives new news & music

While Kanye is taking alot of the hip-hop world’s attention, Ghostface is quietly building the buzz for his album next month called The Apollo Kids. The vid above describes that the Apollo Kids is a just a “warm-up”, which I will suppose for Rae’s “Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang” album. After the jump, I got the behind the scenes video for Ghostface’s new joint “Purified Thoughts”. Don’t think its on the album but he got to finish the project he did for that RED Bull Winner. “Together Baby’ IS off the new Apollo Kids album. Props to NR.
