Jay Smooth – Dancing Into the Sunlight (MJ post)

Really, if you all you listen to is the radio and what MTV tells you to – I don’t know what hope I have for you. Even on the internets, there is so much quality stuff out there, its hard to find. For those that want to better their lives and smarten up (nas), you should be following Harry Allen and Jay Smooth. Two of the most educated, message-driven, thought provoking men in hip-hop who are not in academia. Really! Leave our site now and go read their stuff. Its that good! Anyways, I think Jay just puts together his ideas on Harlem, MJ, and media in awesome argument. Please watch. On similar note, shouldn’t we all feel a lil’ sad that Michael Jackson fought so hard to have his children avoid the childhood celebrity, popularity and its consequences that he suffered through and now we (the public) are forcing his daughter to relive that family cycle. Maybe it’s just me….

Jay Smooth – Operation Ignore Charles Hamilton

I wish all of hip-hop took the time to think just a quarter as much as Jay Smooth does. I feel like he is our new KRS-One. While the rest of the world is clowning Charles Hamilton, including myself, Jay takes a moment to analyze CH’s behavior and provide some constructive feedback. Below is his addendum to the above video.

Jay Smooth – Asher Roth & the racial crossroads

Jay is back at his video grind again! This means only good things for smart people like you and I who love hip-hop. Finally, I have heard someone give their respected opinion on the Asher Roth debacle besides eskay and Bol – which was quite entertaining by the way. (Rosenberg, you’ve been awfully quiet during this whole thing despite all your cosigning before the incident. just saying… I wanna hear your side of things.) Interested in your opinion and if you have no opinion on what this is about, check our Fatlace’s write-up. I still don’t know what Jay is referencing when he talks about Vice magazine’s racism.

*** UPDATE: I haven’t been to Peter’s site in a week and, of course, its the week he posts a response about Asher.  To be fair, here it is.

Jay & Just on Komi

I don’t frequent TMTD as much as I should and I know definitely not as much $port does, but now I kinda wish I did.

The video is a personalized, educated, and unique response to a constant reader/commenter on Just Blaze’s blog who caught the attention of one of hip-hop’s best producers and best journalists. See the comments section here to see what garnered the Just/Jay response. Based on their response, I figured now I need to do a few things to get some attention from my fav bloggers: 1) Have talent 2) Continue to comment everyday on my fav blogs 3) Say something passionately dumb to get people to question my talent, maturity and perspective 4) Be young.

Two wrap-up points to this post, I think today’s hip-hop heads are in a very privileged position where we have instant and available access to our hip-hop icons/legends/artists. Be grateful for that! Lastly, I need to get more educated on this Israeli/Gaza situation. Much like the Economy crisis, I need to understand things that don’t seem to directly impact me. Your help is appreciated.

McCain is shook

Jay Smooth shares my thoughts on this whole economy meltdown thing. Part of me is starting to think that this is getting so much attention b/c its a rich person’s problem. Maybe the trickle down hasn’t hit me yet. In any sense, McCain is using it as an excuse to avoid his first debate – now you know why he wanted Townhall meetings instead. Anyways, hiding behind the economic bailout vote (where his presence has little to no effect) and comparing it to 9/1 just screams desperation. And as my boy Amart, pointed out to me – “suspending campaigns will help his money stretch too.” We’ll see. Obama has basically slapped that ish away from him and said “I’ll do me.” A McCain no-show on Friday cancels my DJ gig at a debate party. Thanks, John.

How to tell people they sound racist

Jay Smooth drops some knowledge on talking about race when someone says something that makes everyone feel uncomfortable. “Its who you are but what you do”. In Management, we call this distinction performance versus personality. I don’t care about who you are but rather what you do. And if you just want to laugh about race, Juan Epstein founders, Ciph and Peter, did their first show on Hot97 mornings. Here them talk at length about the N-word at 5am.

Jay Smooth’s take on WALL-E

Saw WALL-E last night. Dopeness! Not better than Monsters, Inc. but pretty amazing with what they did with the film. Here is Jay Smooth‘s take on the movie. Don’t play it, if you haven’t seen yet. On a completely random note, anyone else with me that Wale should make a WALL-E mixtape? Just my thoughts…

We are not there yet….

Jay Smooth drops some helpful advice to his fellow Obama supporters. Its not time to celebrate just yet but I think we can see the finish line. Don’t be a schmuck!

J.Smooth responds to B. Johnson

I’ll put my politics out there and say that I am voting for Barack. Now, I am not one of those “I will do anything for him – he’s the next JFK!” stans but I do like the dude’s ideas, enthusiasm, and swagger. Plus, he played “99 Problems” at his rally b/c a b!tch (Hillary) ain’t one. Nice. I mean…who wants to see the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton Regime go on?

This is how we do…

Recently, we have been getting A LOT of praise for the site and what we do. For that, I give my humbled thanks. We also have been getting some responses about not being first to post something or posting a few days later on a topic. To those opinions, KTL says “so what?!”. Our philosophy is not to be first, but to be better. We wanna give you our insight and take on things. And I was happy to see Jay Smooth shares the same beliefs. We are here to bring intelligence and swagger back to the hip-hop game. Thanks for the love and let’s see you elevate in ’08!
