Exhibit C Decoded

Via RHHH, noted hip-hop journalist ToureX explains the depth and linear story within Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C” – one of my fav songs of the last 10 years and current ringtone. A brilliant piece of writing from both Jay & Toure. I learned a few things that I thought I already knew.

Jay Electronica – Prelude to a Freestyle

prelude to a freestyle. from Jay Electronica on Vimeo.

Jay drops a video of a freestyle and imagery from his recent trips. Although signed to RocNation, it seems like Jay Elect is still doing his music his way and his pace. Not mad at that all. Props to FWMJ for the lyrics to the freestyle.

Jay Electronica – The Making of Act II

This is why Jay is one of my fav artists out right now. He’s not even in the vid for more than 10 seconds. This song is going to be powerful.

Jay Electronica – RESPECT Interview

Elliot Wilson, editor-in-chief of RESPECT magazine & RapRadar, was one of the few people to get an in-depth and telling interview with the enigmatic Jay Electronica.  Beyond just scoring the interview, he got Jay to open up about life before Exhibit C and the trajectory of his rap career. Really good read.  In a similar vein, salute to Combat Jack for heading and hoping to resurrect The Source.  For the first time in over a decade, I might purchase an issue. Salute!

Interview is after the jump.

Jay Electronica – Spotlight

Jay Electronica featured on Carson Daly’s Spotlight segment of his show. This is probably the only positive thing that Carson Daly has contributed to our society. Shots. Props to NR.

Oh, by the way, happy birthday to me.  “Woke up early on my born day…”

Jay Electronica – The Making of Act. 1

That’s Just Blaze at the MPC, not Jay. Just in case, you were wondering. One of my favorite Jay Electronica songs ever. For those hardbody KTL readers (all 40 of you – yep, we up to 40 now), here is a part of the still unreleased of Exhibit B that didn’t make the cut. I know its two Jay posts in one week but so what, I don’t see hustling to keep our culture alive. “Julio Iglesias, making cream like that…” Read the rest of this entry »

Jay Electronica & Diddy – Ghost…(Making of Video)

Say what you will about Puff, but this video right here, man, this is what hip-hop should feel like. Its music, a culture of energy, amongst a whole plethora of other things. But, the point is that it should make you feel something, move (mentally and/or physically), and have a braggadocio about yourself that only one who has overcame challenges could have. That’s my piece. Enjoy! From Jay’s spot.

Jay Electronica – Ghost of Christopher Wallace

Jay Elec dropped this gem earlier today.  What a way to start the weekend.  This joint has the internets ablaze.  Way better than the Drake and Eminem joints that dropped earlier this week.  Diddy is the hypeman on this joint and actually adds to the song.  The sound is reminiscent of “Death of Autotune” but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  Listen and DL now! Props to Twitter.

Jay Electronica – Peter Rosenberg Interview

Peter Rosenberg got the chance to sit down to talk to Jay Electronica a couple of weeks ago.  They hit up topics like Jews, wacking, and why Exhibit C has gotten so much attention.  Its a really good listen.  Peter, we still love you! Let’s get back to the roots with some Juan Epstein classics!
