Raekwon explain “Shaolin vs Wu-Tang”

The Chef is really trying to the Ghostface claim to be the most consistent and acclaimed Wu Member (which was previously held by Method Man). I think he gives great insight to the new album and what he’s trying to achieve. I was going to try to write this in some rae/ghost jargon but the Big Ghost Chronicles does it way better than I do.

The ReIntro Part 2 – DJ Franchise

The ReIntro Part 2 ends my two-part mix for my fellow lovers of hip-hop who are hesitant to give the new generation of MCs, DJs, and producers an open ear (much less heart).  Like many of us who grew up on this culture, we’ve been scorned. We see the art being substituted for commerce. Our exclusive “club” of friends and associates who you recognized loved hip-hop because of the way they nodded their head is now accessible to your grandparents and other unrecognizables. My effort here is to let my circle of influencers, my 5%ers, know that the music we love is well and strong. The quality is now in the minority but the impact is no less effective.  While Part 1 focused on earning your respect and was a subtle, approachable blend; Part 2 pushes the listener to engage in the lyrics and beats like we did when we walked the streets with headphones or in our rooms with speakers on blast.  Partake!  Tracklisting after the jump.

Ghostface gives new news & music

While Kanye is taking alot of the hip-hop world’s attention, Ghostface is quietly building the buzz for his album next month called The Apollo Kids. The vid above describes that the Apollo Kids is a just a “warm-up”, which I will suppose for Rae’s “Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang” album. After the jump, I got the behind the scenes video for Ghostface’s new joint “Purified Thoughts”. Don’t think its on the album but he got to finish the project he did for that RED Bull Winner. “Together Baby’ IS off the new Apollo Kids album. Props to NR.

Stretch & Bobbito – Final/20th Anniversary Show

Last night was an iconic night for hip-hop.  The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito show reunited for a final hurrah before the doors were closed.  They went to their original time slot (1am to 5am EST) with a few homies, then kept it going for one more hour. They did what they normally did on the show – busted out jokes, played freestyles, and ridiculed callers.  Combat Jack & DP, who were doing their radio show on Thursday night, even called in – it was that big.  By 2am (PST), the internets, hip-hop heads, and fellow DJs were on their laptops listening to show.  It was a familiar feeling to listen to a radio show with your friends in the late night, feeling you were the only ones privy to this culture.  There was a dope twitter discussion between Platurn, Matthew Africa, Byze One and myself about the impact (or lack of) the show had on the West Coast.  Props to Ivan Rott for the stream.  Shout out to the West Coast Radio pioneers – KDAY, Wake Up Show, & Friday Night Flavas.  Salute to AtotheL & Fool’s Good for the content.

Frank Dukes X Ghostface Killah (Red Bull Video)

Red Bull has really made their mark as a corporate brand truly supporting hip-hop at its roots. The winner of the 2009 Red Bull Big Tune Producer batter, Frank Dukes, got to choose an MC he wanted to work with as prize for winning the battle. Who’d he choose? Ghostface Killah. Its a dope video to inspire. More at Nah Right.

Bun B – Let ‘Em Know (Produced by DJ Premier)

For Bun’s new album, he got Primo to lace him with a track.  Bun has been on some Termanology joints that Primo has produced but none for his solo efforts, so this was a nice change of pace.  I think the two go well together on a track.  Primo also did a superb job with his scratch hook for the song, which includes Pimp C (RIP).  This track sparked a twitter conversation of MCs that should have a Primo joint but still haven’t.  My inclusions to the list were Ghostface, Black Thought, and Slick Rick.  Feel free to share yours.  Thanks to TSS for the link.

Hip-Hop Confessions – Episode #5

Another installment of Skillz’s Hip-Hop Confessions. He’s got a really good thing going with these episodes. This one is producer heavy with Sean C, D-Dot, and also, Young Chris from the Young Gunz. The explanation to Cherchez LaGhost’s lyrics are explained. As always, I give you one of mine everytime, here it goes…. I believe that the chorus to Electric Relaxation is “relax yourself girl, preset plan”. Anyone else with me?

Wu-Massacre – Our Dreams (Video)

In honor of the release of Wu-Massacre from Method Man, Ghostface, & Raekwon, I present to you the “Our Dreams” video. I’ve heard bits and pieces of the album but stayed away from downloading it to support the crew. Directed by Rik Cordero, this keeps in the same Se7en theme that the trailers did a few months ago. Enjoy and support!

Wu-Massacre Cover Art

How ill is this cover? Reminds of the superhero campaign that Def Jam did back in ’96.  All the info you need to know here.
