Jazzy Jeff at the Do Over

My hero, DJ Jazzy Jeff, plays his set at the Do Over. He plays to the crowd and homage to Nate Dogg and then rips into a blend of samples that will make you dirty your pants. One in particular will make you go crazy. The sample was found just recently and to see him play it with Questlove watching is priceless. GOAL for 2012: DJ Franchise at The Do Over.

Skillz – Infamous Quotes Mixtape

Skillz dropped this a couple of weeks ago.  I’ve been able to give it a thorough listen and must say that, its a pretty solid effort.  An an MC, Skillz has great one-liners and story telling abilties (ala The Rap Up series) but I’ve always been more ciritical of his abiltiy to construct a solid song.  This collection of songs, I think that he’s developed this area and wouldn’t be surprised if we see a dope, well-rounded album when he drops “The World Needs More Skillz” soon.  Stand out joint is track #27. OH! Did I mention that he’s got two of my favorite DJs (Jazzy Jeff & J. Period) handling the mixing duties? Its a no brainer.  Tracklist after the jump.

DJ Jazzy Jeff – Live at The Do-Over Mix

My hero and DJ inspiration, Jazzy Jeff, finally made it to LA’s great Sunday party – The Do-Over last month. I think its been like 3 or 5 years that they have been trying to get him there. Jeff gave his classic touch to a mix full of soul, samples, and hip-hop. Clear some space on your iPhone for this one.  Tracklist after the jump.

DJ Jazzy Jeff X Questlove (Live Set)

Last Month at The Roots Picnic in Philly, Questo and Jazzy Jeff got together to do their rendition of the DJ/Drummer set (a la Travis Barker & AM, Bobo & Rhettmatic). While the others have looked to party-out or dance, this set takes much more “digging” approach. Pulling out alot of the originals into the sampled hip-hop song is a great move. Not that Jazzy Jeff cares but I was really happy to hear him do the same intro/mix that I do with Ms. Fat Booty and One More Chance. Anyways, its an entertaining mix. Khal hooked up this one.

Hip-Hop Confessions – Episode #4

Skillz brings us another installment of Hip-Hop confessions. I love these episodes. This time he brings heavyweights, DJ Jazzy Jeff & Kwame (you should know who he is). They dont stay focused on Hip-Hop, the whole time but Jeff’s face at Kwame’s confessions are priceless. As always with HHC, I give you one of mine: I still don’t own “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back” by Public Enemy.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & Skillz – Interview

The homies from Distortion 2 Static struck gold again with another dope interview. This time w/ Jazzy Jeff and Skillz when they touched down in SF earlier last month. Skillz drops some topics on what will be on his Rap-UP ’09 and Jeffs gives some insight to his DJ career. A must see. Via NR.

Jazzy Jeff speaks on Fresh Prince

DJ Jazzy Jeff has been interviews several times over for the DJ Hero release. I’ve seen most of them but I spotted this one at Rap Radar. Looks to be the most touching. Good friends sharing a dream and then realizing, that’s what its all about, right? Stay positive and keep it moving, people.

DJ Jazzy Jeff – LL Cool J Scratch

Questlove used his flip cam to get some footage of Jazzy Jeff scratching LL Cool J’s “Rock The Bells” intro for an LL Cool J later that evening at the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors. Just great skills at work. Watch and be inspired.
