Futurized Funk – A tribute mix to Easy Mo Bee

Here is a mix that I made to pay homage to one of my favorite producers., Easy Mo Bee.  I didn’t want to consider this a “best of” but felt that it was a strong representation of his work.  This mix is also dedicated to a good friend of mine, Matthew Africa, who passed last month.  He encouraged me to make this mix and provided some great ideas. As usual, this a one take mix. It was cool to see Easy Mo Bee give me props on his twitter.  Tracklisting after the jump:

DJ Franchise – Elevator Speech

elevator speech franchise

Earmilk reached out to me for an interview and I was honored to be part of a new series for this classy site.  Basically, the concept was if someone wanted to know in a brief amount of time what your DJ style was, this what I would give them.  Check my interview here. Hope you like the mix.

Earmilk features DJ Franchise

Just wanted to share a very humbling and in-depth write up that popped on my Twitter timeline today. I had no idea this was written  but I’ve been getting a lot of listens, shout outs and emails from this piece.  Literally got over 1,000 listens on my soundcloud in one day. Shout out to Liz Choi for the write-up, though. I feel very blessed to have such nice things said.  But, it also made me think of two things:

1) For DJs & other creatives, always present your best effort because you never know who’s paying attention

2) I am very lucky to have the support and encouragement from my people to pursue this passion of mine.  Whether it be words, your own work, or getting me a gig, you’ve inspired me to elevate my craft.

Take a gander at the article and if you can comment or post it somewhere: Earmilk features DJ Franchise.

DJ Franchise – DJing @ Dance Right (6.8.11)

LA family, I’ll be in town tonight for a quick minute to DJ at one of my fav parties, DANCE RIGHT.  The good people at DR asked me to come down from the Bay to provide the evening with a hip-hop sound and good amount of body-shaking beats. I’ll be kicking off the night at 9pm till about 10:30 with 90s era hip-hop for my friends that want to stop through.

You can RSVP here and a link for that those like the facebookey:

DJ Franchise & Tim Diesel talk Tha Liks

A follow-up from our Alkaholiks Tribute mix a few weeks ago, I wanted to share with you a post-mis interview we did about the Liks with the All Day Play staff. They misspelled our names but oh well. Hope you enjoy it. IF you scroll down, you can listen/download the mix below.

DJ Franchise X Tim Diesel – Alkaholiks Tribute mix

Local 1200 legend and homie, Tim Diesel, invited me to the All Day Play studios last week to spin with him on his radio show “On The Roof”.  He’s done some great tribute/block mixes in the past: Grand Puba, LONS, Nice N Smooth, etc. So, a few weeks ago, he and I discussed doing a tribute mix to one of my favorite West Coast groups – Tha Alkaholiks.  They were one of my favs because they were so LA but didn’t necessarily associate with the thug imagery. Task and J-Ro had great lyrics/punchlines. E-Swift provided a musical backdrop that was funky but east-coast inspired. Hope you like the mix. I did the first 30 minutes, Diesel the last 30 min. Tracklisting after the jump.

DJ Franchise X Moxsie.com – Muse Music (mix)

I teamed up with one of the leading sites for independent fashion, Moxsie.com, to give you a mix to salute to the women of style who make our lives inspirational. Partnering with Moxsie for this mix was an easy decision: we both have forward-thinking fanbases, we appreciate the eclectic individuality of great style, and we both support the independent spirit/hustle of world-class talent. “Muse Music” is a soundtrack for you to appreciate the women who inspire you and give your style a chance to break from the norm. Enjoy! Props to AMART for the support.  Tracklisting after the jump.

DJ Franchise – Live Set from MAJOR SUNDAYS

A couple of Sundays ago, I got invited to DJ at MAJOR SUNDAYS in Oakland.  Very few parties in the Bay own a night.  You got PST on Thursdays, for example.  Sunday has MAJOR at Somar Bar.  So, it was big deal for me to DJ it.  Mpenzi & J.Sight, who host the night, were nothing short of the expected caliber of great promoters and Bay nightlife. Mpenzi recorded my set from that phenomenal night.  On my worst own critic and know they are a couple of glitches here and there but it was a fun mix, regardless.  Enjoy.
