DJ Franchise X Moxsie.com – Muse Music (mix)

I teamed up with one of the leading sites for independent fashion, Moxsie.com, to give you a mix to salute to the women of style who make our lives inspirational. Partnering with Moxsie for this mix was an easy decision: we both have forward-thinking fanbases, we appreciate the eclectic individuality of great style, and we both support the independent spirit/hustle of world-class talent. “Muse Music” is a soundtrack for you to appreciate the women who inspire you and give your style a chance to break from the norm. Enjoy! Props to AMART for the support.  Tracklisting after the jump.

DJ Franchise – Donut Scented Candles

I present to you a mix inspired by the happy, romantic times in a relationship. A sensual mix that is big-girl friendly.  I have hope that this becomes the soundtrack for your weekend and intimate time, regardless of the holiday.  A break-away from the hip-hop we usually present but a necessary dose of soul that you can benefit from.

DJ Franchise – Megapost

IMG_8926

As a prep for a round of out-of-town gigs in 2011 (SoCal in Feb, NY in April, & Chicago in June), I thought I would send you a post of some of my recent mixes that you may or may not have heard.  Feel free to listen, enjoy, and/or criticze.  I have a few more mixes in the incubator that will be released in 2011.  So keep a look out!

Thanks for all the support and whenever at one of my gigs, please come up and say hi.  I only smell like Lemons half the time.  OH! #plugtime.  I spin at Sugar Lounge every Saturday night in San Francisco.  Great dance party.  And, I am always interested in collaboing with other DJs.

Roc Raida Tribute – Nov 2010

In LA this month, the remaining X-Men (pka The X-Ecutioners) and The Beat Junkies had a tribute for one of the best dudes to touch the decks. His videos and live performances were just inspiring. If I could be a hundredth of the DJ that Raida was, I would be happy w/ my life. Salute to Beat JUnkies and the other DJs that keep Roc’s legacy alive.

Stretch & Bobbito – Final/20th Anniversary Show

Last night was an iconic night for hip-hop.  The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito show reunited for a final hurrah before the doors were closed.  They went to their original time slot (1am to 5am EST) with a few homies, then kept it going for one more hour. They did what they normally did on the show – busted out jokes, played freestyles, and ridiculed callers.  Combat Jack & DP, who were doing their radio show on Thursday night, even called in – it was that big.  By 2am (PST), the internets, hip-hop heads, and fellow DJs were on their laptops listening to show.  It was a familiar feeling to listen to a radio show with your friends in the late night, feeling you were the only ones privy to this culture.  There was a dope twitter discussion between Platurn, Matthew Africa, Byze One and myself about the impact (or lack of) the show had on the West Coast.  Props to Ivan Rott for the stream.  Shout out to the West Coast Radio pioneers – KDAY, Wake Up Show, & Friday Night Flavas.  Salute to AtotheL & Fool’s Good for the content.

Stuff DJ’s Hate – website

One of my new favorite sites: http://stuffdjshate.com/ This should be required reading before you are allowed to enter the club.  Even if you are a personal friend, these rules apply to you too.  If you see yourself in the examples, laugh then change your life. Via the homie, DJ Platurn.

Touch Panel DJing?

I mean, it could happen. Here’s what Nerd With Swag had to say about it:

“Hailing from Chile, this concept has been designed by a gentleman, scholar and DJ by the name of Rodrigo. Utilizing a rear projector for its video, it’s combined it with a Traktor Pro controller dubbed Emulator, which in hand (pun intended) turns gestures and finger movements into an experience guaranteed to have everyone on the dance floor.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff – Live at The Do-Over Mix

My hero and DJ inspiration, Jazzy Jeff, finally made it to LA’s great Sunday party – The Do-Over last month. I think its been like 3 or 5 years that they have been trying to get him there. Jeff gave his classic touch to a mix full of soul, samples, and hip-hop. Clear some space on your iPhone for this one.  Tracklist after the jump.

Gaslamp Killer explains his name…

In honor of my DJ gig at Bar Dynamite in San Diego tomorrow w/ the homie DJ Beatnick, here is a video of SD’s own but exiled “Gaslamp Killer”. Great insight to this genre breaking DJ. Stole this from fellow SD DJ, Face Melter, who by coincidence I am spinnig with, along DJ Mamabear, at Double Dutch tonight in San Francisco. I’m all over Cali this weekend.

DJ Franchise – Live Set from PST (7.23.10)

A live set recorded at one of the Bay Area’s greatest parties, PST Live! at YoshiSF. Resident Sake1 invited me for a guest spot on July 23, 2010. He basically said play “sexy soul, you know what to do” and what you hear is the result. Proud of this mix and the people loved it, too.  Your comments and feedback are always appreciated.
