Futurized Funk – A tribute mix to Easy Mo Bee

Here is a mix that I made to pay homage to one of my favorite producers., Easy Mo Bee.  I didn’t want to consider this a “best of” but felt that it was a strong representation of his work.  This mix is also dedicated to a good friend of mine, Matthew Africa, who passed last month.  He encouraged me to make this mix and provided some great ideas. As usual, this a one take mix. It was cool to see Easy Mo Bee give me props on his twitter.  Tracklisting after the jump:

Busta talks the 5 percenters

Growing up in the golden age of hip-hop, if you were a true listener to the music, you couldn’t help but be intrigued by the rhetoric that MCs were spitting about the 5 Percent Nation. It was ingrained and mentioned in many of lyrics from Wu, Brand Nubian, KMD, Leaders of the New School, Big Daddy Kane, and many others. Although, I can’t agree with all the ideology of the group, I did respect and learn from their discipline and movement to uplift the “people”. This got me to study more about Malcolm X, the talented tenth, and other black movements and apply it to my Latino upbringing and personal journey. Hearing Busta talk about the nation w/ Devi Dev (who every hip-hop dude wants to marry) reminds of that adolescent time & his past lyrical intensity.

Busta Rhymes – Respect Magazine

Busta sits down with Elliot Wilson (Rap Radar/RESPECT) to discuss his trials and journey in his 20+ year old career in hip-hop for RESPECT magazine.  A really great read that discloses the break up of LONS from his side and the realities of his career at such a young age.  Really enlightening.  Take a gander after the jump.

Busta Rhymes discusses the Break-up of L.O.N.S.

Busta discusses with VLADTV (who is not a journalist BTW) about how Leaders of the New School broke up before they were even signed. He also discusses why he always wanted to be a part of Tribe, which Q-Tip disclosed earlier to Peter Rosenberg at the last Noisemakers. On a personal note, when L.O.N.S. broke up it was tough news for me because they were one of my favorite groups when I was younger. Its just sad that almost 20 years later, there is still bad blood between them. This stuff happened when they were teenagers, get over it. Thanks for the video, GG.

Rosenberg @ Rock The Bells (SF)

I got a sneak peak at the this video on Sat night and have anxiously been waiting for Rosenberg to post them. I’m sure you will enjoy! Peter is stylin’ on them once again. And for those who listen to his Real Late show, here is the Busta joint that was produced by Kev Brown. Courtesy of Blind I.

Busta Rhymes – Don’t touch me now (remix)

This is my third and final warning for all of you. This song is fire and the video was Busta at his finest. Now Busta must have called in a favor or two to get Nas, Game, Wayne, and Big Daddy Kane on the remix. Reek and Spliff come in and do their thing as well. All spit a mean verse. DJs, this should be in your rotation and give no excuses on why you haven’t played it in your set yet. Eskay was the source.

Don’t Touch Me Now (Video)

This just made my morning. Old bus-a-bus flavor. I’ve watched it 3X in a row now. Dan, you have to see this. Makes my heart smile to see Spliff and Bus together again. I told you were sleeping on it. (Source: NR)
