A-Trak on the Combat Jack Show

I was able to sit in on this show with Combat Jack & Dallas Penn last week.  A-Trak was the guest and was hyped to see the DJ prodigy.  A real humble guy who’s self-assuredness is evident.  The interview gives you some great insight to what his career has been like since the age of 13 and what he’s doing with Fool’s Gold.  If you listen closely, you can hear Combat Jack give me a shout out in the middle of the interview. #getreadyforcombat

Roc Raida Tribute (Brooklyn Bowl)

In celebration of Roc Raida, a few DJs (uhhh A-Trak, Craze, Premier, Total Eclipse) came through and rocked some amazing sets for the fallen X-Man. This vid shows higlights from the show but also some cool interviews about their feelings regarding the Roc Raida. On the DJ topic, Master of The Mix is sucks. The show was notable but mediocre last season. Amber Rose as a judge and the slew of “real world failures” DJs is horrible. Much respect to Total Eclipse on the show but everyone else can get got.

Aloe Blacc – Need A Dollar (video)

Respect due to Sake and the PST crew, I give you Aloe Blacc’s video of “Need A Dollar”. Shot live from one of LA’s best parties, The Do Over. Sake 1 on the decks. Cameos of a lot of dope DJs as well. Love the song and I think the vid fits the vibe. Props to Adidas for the footage. Speaking of Adidas, the Boba Fetts dropped today.

A-Trak at Fat Beats

A-Trak put on a great show in the closing days of Fat Beats (NY). Just Blaze and other were in attendance. During the show, he speaks on what Fat Beats means to him personally and does some mixing for the crowd. Brought to you via Rosenberg. I know I haven’t talked much about Fat Beats closing but I wanted to take a moment here to say a few words. Fat Beats closing is a true sad moment for hip-hop but mostly for DJs and artists. I haven’t been a fan of people blaming the consumers for Fat Beats’ closing. True serato DJs and online music has made it difficult to for a majority of retail outlets to survive. But to plan the DJs and customers is simple-minded and scapegoatish. Why not put some fault on the artist for not putting out quality music to buy? Why not ask Fat Beats business owners what their business model was to adapt to online and technological advances? Was there quality and sound business practices in place? Was pricing an issue? Did rent or payroll cause the closure? I ask these question not to deflect blame but ask the hip-hop public to be a little more critical and scrutinize the situation before following media trends. Again, I am sad its closed but be smart about our reaction.

When Trizzy met Drizzy…

Above is a video of Drake performing at Alife earlier this month in promotion of his album. He had A-Trak as his DJ for the show. Originally posted in the Nah Right Lite section, here is a blog entry from A-Trak about his first encounters with Drake that I thought was really cool. I’ve become an A-Trak over the years. I felt betrayed originally becuase he was the awesome young phenom of a DJ and then, in my eyes, we lost him to the hipster/electro scene. The hip-hop purist in me wanted him to stay a turntablist. But after reading his blog and numerous interviews, I see him as an artist that is just following his musical sense. He’s still a dope DJ and you can’t take that away from him. Read his entry after the jump. And for my fellow Serato nerds, check out his blog post about when his Serato crashed when DJing for Kanye at the Princess Diana concert. Classic!

DJ Reflex & A-Trak – Live set

My homegirl Candace sent this over to me yesterday. I got to meet Reflex at Dance Right before and he’s a real cool dude. He basically explains his role in breaking artists at Power 106 and we see A-Trak scratch it up. Below is the soundcloud of their set. I was really happy to hear him play “I’ll Get You” (remix) by Classixx – a great song that I’ve been putting into my sets recently.
