In celebration of Roc Raida, a few DJs (uhhh A-Trak, Craze, Premier, Total Eclipse) came through and rocked some amazing sets for the fallen X-Man. This vid shows higlights from the show but also some cool interviews about their feelings regarding the Roc Raida. On the DJ topic, Master of The Mix is sucks. The show was notable but mediocre last season. Amber Rose as a judge and the slew of “real world failures” DJs is horrible. Much respect to Total Eclipse on the show but everyone else can get got.

I just had to post that gangsta pic of Raekwon. GQ broke some dope ground recently with making Jay-Z one of their Men of the Year and including Raekwon on their Survivor list along with Eminem and Keith Richards. I think its not only socially notable but just great content to read. I’ve included both links for you to enjoy!
I am really messed up by his passing. Heavy D inspired a whole generation with dance moves, his “didddly- dee”, and knack for making music that wide-spreading. Even my parents knew who he was. It was his line “Don’t be down with anybody, let them all be down with you” that defined my adolescence and many years after that. Prayers go to his daughter, friends, and family. Pete Rock must be devastated right now. If you are in the Bay, I am going all 90s hip-hop and R&B at Nappy Bees this weekend in honor of the Hevster.

Young Guru stopped by the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid recently to speak on his experiences and history with Jay-Z’s career and hip-hop. 2 Hours in length but some great insight here. Source: PIK.

Great DJ and good friend of mine, DJ Platurn, released this mix awhile back. Its not only been cosigned by heavyweights such as Z-Trip & Cosmo Baker, but this mix was an influence and recognized by the Michael Rappaport, director of the Tribe Documentary. Don’t believe me, check the credits. For a very short time and in time to commemorate the Tribe DVD, you can download the mix for free. Don’t pull a Lupe at the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors and mess up your opportunity to salute Tribe.
Those that have lived in the LA area or even visited SXSW last year, know about this duo. Eric Bobo from Cypress Hill and Rhettmatic from the Beat Junkies have teamed up to give music lovers a glimpse of great instrumentation. This is funk mix they did, with a new EP coming out in November 2011.

This is rare live footage on the Def Jam Tour in 1987 in LOndon. Do note, this after they released their debut “Yo! Bumrush the show”. How many groups had their act together like this after their first album?
