Good friend and world-recognized DJ, Sake 1, collaboed with one of my fav street brands, Blvck Scvle, to give you a musical landscape to interpret both the times and their designs.  Genius, if you ask me.  Sake has an awesome intelligence for music and this mix proves it.  Please download immediately, you won’t be disappointed.  Tracklisting after the jump.

SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS (Trailer)

As a recent convert to LCD soundsystem (yes, I know I am late on this one, too), I’ve been super excited to see this film. I heard it was in the making but its great to know its coming out at Sundance. Hopefully, we’ll see it in theaters or Blu-Ray soon. Info about the doc after the jump.

How The Dark Knight Should Have Ended

I guess I got the late pass to have not seen this vid yet but I thought it was pretty hilarious. When you get a chance, check out the X-Men: First Class vid too.

Jay-Z – Glory feat B.I.C.

http://cdn.hiphopstan.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Empire-State-Building-Blue-Ivy.jpg

Jay-Z and Beyonce had their daughter, Blue Ivy, on January 7th.  Also, Just Blaze’s birthday – FYI.  On Monday, the proud dad made a song to commemorate the birth of his daughter.  Read his words:

“Life just got REALLY good.

Hello Hello Baby Blue!

We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012.

Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven.

She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives.

We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”

Shout out to all the Dad’s of daughters who truly understand this song.

Jean Grae – U&Me&EveryoneWeKnow

This joint popped up on OKP and other spots in the hip-hop blogosphere.  Jean Grae releases this heartfelt first single from her upcoming album, “Cake or Death”. If hip-hop followed this transparent, emotional level that Jean is giving, we’re gonna be alright.  Take a moment to listen and make your life better.

The Dark Knight Rises – Prologue

The TDKR prologue premiered before Mission Impossible 4 in theaters. Here’s a theater (not HD) copy of it. Its hard to understand Bane in this copy but if this is just the prologue, this movie trilogy is gonna end on a high note, ala Return of the Jedi style.

Jay-Z & Kanye West – N*ggas In Paris (live)

I got a chance to see one of my most anticipated tours recently when The Throne touched down in San Jose for one night. The concert was groundbreaking in that Jay and Kanye separated themselves from hip-hop act or MCs to full-on performers. This concert from production, setlist, staging, and confidence was at the level of U2, Coldplay, or The Who. Much like on the album, Jay was the more reserved elder statesman when compared to the emotional, relationship-driven Kanye on stage. What did strike me though was that although Jay has more classics and icon in the game, it was clear that Kanye was more popular and who the crowd came to see/enjoy.

The vid above is of them ending the night with the anthemic “N*ggas in Paris”. Unlike LA’s 10 times in a row, we only heard it 3 times.

Just Blaze on The Combat Jack Show

http://thediggersunion.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/The-Combat-Jack-Show-with-Just-Blaze.png

Just Blaze stopped by my 2nd favorite Wednesday night activity last week.  Its a great interview that ranges from how he got started into production, taking college courses in 6th grade, comics, Master of the Mix, and of course, “not turning into your pops”.  Gems were dropped on this one.  Enjoy!

“Endangered State of the Hip-Hop Interview”

http://thehiphopconsultant.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/jay-z-angie-martinez-bet-special-september-1-2009-450x3361.jpg

Jake Paine over at Hip-HopDX gives an insightful and reflective article on how the “hip-hop interview” is becoming less relevant to hip-hop’s larger artists.  Its a great read and touches on some of the cultural shifts within media and the hip-hop nation.  Full article after the jump.

Roc Raida Tribute (Brooklyn Bowl)

In celebration of Roc Raida, a few DJs (uhhh A-Trak, Craze, Premier, Total Eclipse) came through and rocked some amazing sets for the fallen X-Man. This vid shows higlights from the show but also some cool interviews about their feelings regarding the Roc Raida. On the DJ topic, Master of The Mix is sucks. The show was notable but mediocre last season. Amber Rose as a judge and the slew of “real world failures” DJs is horrible. Much respect to Total Eclipse on the show but everyone else can get got.
