A-Trak on the Combat Jack Show

I was able to sit in on this show with Combat Jack & Dallas Penn last week.  A-Trak was the guest and was hyped to see the DJ prodigy.  A real humble guy who’s self-assuredness is evident.  The interview gives you some great insight to what his career has been like since the age of 13 and what he’s doing with Fool’s Gold.  If you listen closely, you can hear Combat Jack give me a shout out in the middle of the interview. #getreadyforcombat

Nas – The Don

After a recent viewing of the Nas’ Behind The Music, I’ve become more and more excited for his upcoming album, The Good Life. Nas has been a streak of good songs and impressive features: Ghetto Dreams, Nasty, The Don. I feel like he’s finally in a place where his music is matching is honesty again. “Daughters” was just released and also a joint to check for. Holla!

RTD – The Sixth Sense

The Sixth Sense #iseedubpeople is the sixth anniversary FREE compilation from the homie Khal who runs rockthedub.com. Happy 6th birthday! I am proud of Khal, a fellow internet dad, who has been championing the dubstep sound way before “bros” have been liking in Vegas and bottle-service clubs.

It’s split in two pieces – the main comp and an 11-track extended bonus .zip. Tracks from the likes of MarQ Spekt, Ethel Cee, Danny!, BURNTmd, Tone Liv, Zilla Rocca, the Elite Assembly, Scatta R.Pee, My Man Shafe, Ray Dawn, AWKWORD, Rhymageddon and plenty more.

Tracklisting after the jump.

Karen O – Stop the Virgens

Although KTL is primarily a hip-hop lifestyle blog, any one who’s been to the site knows that I am giant Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Karen O fan. This is her new “musical” (?) based off a secret solo album she did in 2005. Read up on it here.

1-O.A.K. – Special Request

1-O.A.K. - Special Request Album

1-O.A.K. is one of my fav singers of current soul singers.  His voice has a smoothness and is so visceral, you rarely hear this type of talent… ever. Since moving to the Bay, I’ve been following 1-O.A.K.’s songs and career.  Check my mixes and you can find a cameo or song of his on a few of them.  Other than Jay-Z and Keys N Krates, I think he’s on my mixes the most.  His debut album is out and I hope you take a moment to recognize his greatness. All songs were composed, written, arranged, produced, and sang by 1-O.A.K. Props to the Honor Roll Crew!

BJ The Chicago Kid – #Imjustsayin

BJ has been making some rumblings over the last two years but I feel 2012 could be his. This guy is rapidly becoming one of my fav soul singers, up there with Honor Roll’s 1-O.A.K. If you haven’t already listened to “His Pain” w/ Kendrick Lamar, hit me up. Its repeat-worthy. Take a listen to this…

D’Angelo – Untitled (live in 2012)

D’Angelo shed his ODB look and is confronting his demons through music once again. He is currently touring Europe with a hopeful return to the US with a new album in 2012. I’ve been waiting almost a decade for this…
