Mike Tyson: GQ Interview

Everything You Think You Know About Mike Tyson Is Wrong.

That’s the title of the article. For all of 50 KTL readers, you probably already know alot about Mike and everything you read in the article is not new or corrective. But the article is interesting in reading about Mike and where he is at the point of his personal and emotional growth. His conflicting self-image resonates with me and I respect that he is trying to be the person he wants to be, especially for his daughter. Much like Ricky Williams, Tyson was a talented athlete wasn’t emotionally mature to deal with the system and public’s expectations. Thus, crippling him and creating a very self-centered and self-serving individual. They both are in that state but are looking to “transcend”. Interview after the jump.

Ice Cube discuss Raiders Documentary (NY Times)

The last few weeks I have been addicted to the “30 for 30” series that ESPN has been putting on. I really enjoyed the Reggie Miller vs. The Knicks documentary. It reminded me of how great the 90’s NBA rivalries were.  I was mentioning to Sake1 when I watched it that Reggie’s 9 points in 18 seconds changed my life.  Not only do I watch every basketball game if its within 10 points till the end, but I never think anything is over until the clock reaches zero. I digress.

I am really looking forward to Cube’s documentary on the Raiders.  He focuses alot on their imagery, successes/failures, and how music (particualrly N.W.A.) made the Raiders what they are. The interview after the jump gives you a taste of what we will see when it airs on ESPN later this month.

Jay Electronica speaks on Peyton

Hip-Hop heads and football aficionados will appreciate that Jay Elect-willywonka is a sports dude at heart. If you follow him on Twitter, then you already know. With the Superbowl on Sunday, I am going for the Saints along with Jay but I am cheering that Mike Hart plays well. GO BLUE! On a sidenote, didn’t know Jay had a Raekwon grill. Just sayin’. Via NR.

Michael Jordan’s Hall of Fame Induction Speech

On 9/11/09, one of the sport’s greatest heroes was inducted into the basketball hall of fame. I was able to catch the last 10 minutes of his speech but it felt great to see one of my childhood memories be recognized in perpetuity for his impact on basketball, sports, and lives of many. I can list for days on how Jordan changed my life but I am sure if you are reading this site, you feel the same way. Go see YN at RapRadar for the next parts of the speech.

Thrasher Magazine – Back to Berg 2009 (video)

This is for all the hip-hop heads that tried to do an ollie when they were in High School and Middle School. Some great wipe-outs and better air tricks in this video. I know I sound lame but I am trying to spread some coolness. Unfortunatley, I can’t name any of the skaters or tricks they are doing. You’ll just have to enjoy. First seen at Mick Boogie’s site.

DJ Muggs & Estevan Oriol – Gumball 3000

11 years in the making and I am barely catching with this Gumball 3000 craze. Sounds like fun but I don’t have the celebrity or the time (or money) to do it. But I don’t mind watching these two document their expolits on the road. With the event wrapping up last week, it was cool to see what they were able to get on film. I think my favorite part is Muggs saying that he is just spreading the culture of LA internationally. My thoughts exaclty and one of my life goals as well! Via EO. Second video after the jump.

Alchemist on Skating – Street Level Interview

Who knew Alchemist was a skater?  I feel like Californian hip-hop kids were into it at some point if you were a teenager in the late 80s.  Cool name drops from Al in this interview from Street level.

Now excuse me while I go break my leg while I reminisce trying to do an ollie…
